Here you will find definitions for the Gaelic words that we have used in Tartan Hill.

Ard Rí - high king.

clann - a large group of related people, essentially an extended family.

clanna - the plural of clann.

fénnid - a member of a fian.

fian - a band of fianna.

fianna - small, semi-independant band of landless warriors who typically serve a king.

rí benn - a king over a single clann.

rí buiden - a king over a number of clanna.

rí ruidech - a 'king over kings', often a provincial king, with rí buiden as subordinates.

ríg fénnid - the leader of a fian.
